Toshiba Storage Products Division provides a line of 5,400 RPM 2.5-inch HDDs in a new design optimized for industry-leading storage capacities. The MKxx59GSM offers 750GB and 1TB of storage in a 12.5-millimeter-high design over three platters, delivering capacity points primarily supported by larger form factor 3.5-inch HDDs.
The new series of HDDs target the market for portable external hard disk drives, gaming notebooks, mobile workstations and other capacity-hungry applications. Thus, system manufacturers have viable new options for creating product designs in smaller, more economical footprints with improved energy consumption efficiency – all without compromising on storage capacity. The design of this product line continues Toshiba’s environmental initiatives including lower power consumption techniques and components that reduce reliance on harmful chemicals, materials, and compounds.
The new family features an Advanced Sector Format Technology, which uses 4K byte-per-sector formatting and improved error-correcting code functions to provide maximum error detection and more efficient use of the storage surface area.
