Toshiba Storage Device Division proudly announces an expansion to its automotive hard disk drive portfolio with its first automotive Serial ATA (SATA) interface drive featuring expansive temperature, vibration and shock resilience. The new drive has been developed together with leading head-unit manufacturers and will be built in premium high end automobiles worldwide. Due to the increasing demand of in-car systems with functionalities such as 3D navigation, entertainment and on-demand information, Toshiba’s new drive provides passengers and drivers an uncompromising digital experience in the comfort of their cars.
As a result of the SATA Interface, the MK8057GSC drive supports high transfer rate of up to 150 Megabytes per second. As telematics systems have to operate in extreme environmental conditions, the 80GB hard drive has been designed to work at altitudes of -300 to + 5500 meters and features an impressive temperature range of -30 to +85C for the harshest environments – from the desert heat to the Antarctic chill. In addition, the MK8057GSC features an operational shock resistance of up to 300 G and non-operational shock of 800 G, providing a robust and dependable option for cars as they travel through mountainous and rocky terrains.
